Kalais Art is a family-run business that was established in 1990. It features a carefully curated collection of art by a variety of global artists that range from Europe and the Americas, to local artists from Greece and Cyprus.
The collection itself began with pieces of naïve (traditional) art, and eventually grew to encompass a variety of genres and movements, ranging all the way to modern art and pop art.
Today, Kalais Art features more than 500 paintings from passionate art collectors, available for public viewing. The aim of the Gallery is to make art accessible to all, and bring it into the homes to adorn the walls of everyone, from art connoisseurs to amateurs.
Kalais Art was established with much passion and zeal by Sofoklis Kalais, an art enthusiast whose love for his work spans a lifetime, though he only came into the profession in 1995 after his move to Cyprus, when he began collecting numerous art pieces from Greek and European artists.
This sparked his enthusiasm even further, and he slowly became involved with the local art community, all the while growing his own collection.
Sofoklis is actively involved in every aspect of Kalais Art, from discovering artists, curating collections, and managing the entire exhibition process from start to finish, and is always delighted to help art newbies discover the new favorite artist.
Today, he has passed on the reins of the gallery – as well as his deep love and appreciation for art – to his daughter, Kleio, who grew up under the artistic influence of her father.
Kleio pursued this passion herself, with a degree from the Department of Multimedia and Graphic arts of the Cyprus University of Technology.
